Dr. Joana Cook is a Senior Research Fellow at the International Center for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR) at King’s College London. Dr. Cook holds a PhD from the Department of War Studies, which examined women in relation to post-9/11 international U.S. counterterrorism responses. Her research focuses on women in violent extremism, countering violent extremism, and counter-terrorism practices. She is the author of the book, “A woman’s place: U.S. counterterrorism since 9/11” (Hurst 2019). She has presented her research to senior government and security audiences in a number of countries, and at institutions such as the UN Security Council, the European Parliamentary Assembly, and Public Safety Canada (amongst others). She has been featured in media such as CNN, Time, the Telegraph, the Huffington Post, the Washington Post, BBC World News, Sky News, the National Post and CBC.
